The Laboratory of Ship-Machinery Maintenance and Manufacture is the Key Laboratory of Transport Industry and Liaoning Province. The laboratory was driven by the development of “Four Transport”, based on vehicle operation engineering, marine engineering and materials science and engineering. The research of the laboratory focuses on solving key technical problems related to the maintenance and manufacture of the ship-machinery and energy saving and emission reduction and highlights the new technical features of green transportation and peaceful transportation.

Currently there are 35 full-time researchers in total with 32 doctor degrees among whom 19 researchers are professors. The laboratory covers 2,740 m2 that is equipped with devices, instruments and equipment worth over RMB.43 million. It has a public experimental platform of green transportation and new materials of the Ministry of Transport on which there is advanced experimental equipment and ideal experimental conditions. It is also a well-operated platform on which scientific research and talent training are being done with the functions of microscopic analysis of materials, performance evaluation of spare parts and assessment of technical process in China's shipbuilding and repairing engineering. In the past five years, the laboratory was in charge of 15 research projects of National Natural Science Fund, 6 research projects of Ministry of Science and Technology as well as more than 100 provincial and horizontal projects. There have been altogether more than 60 patents granted and 500 papers published in which 120 in SCI and over 300 in EI. The laboratory has won 6 science and technology awards at different levels, including 1 National Award and 5 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards.
