The material performance testing laboratory of Transportation Engineering School originated from the ship engine building and metal materials technology research institute that was established at end of 1980s. Our laboratory was evaluated as a ministry key laboratory of the Ministry of Communications in 1999, and successfully passed the evaluation in 2015. The lab is well equipped with various kinds of experimental instruments and facilities, including metallographic microscope, X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), polarizing microscope, microhardness tester, the friction and wear testing machine, Rockwell hardness tester, Vickers hardness tester, and Brinell hardness tester, etc., which perform all kinds of analysis of materials of crystal structure, microstructure and morphology, phase composition and phase, mechanical property and mechanical parts failure, etc.
The laboratory has a team of members who make commitment to advancing knowledge and building a community of being innovative. Over 80% of our staff members possess a higher or intermediate professional title. The team has undertaken many national, provincial and municipal key research projects as well as the key projects from ministry of communications and won several national, provincial, municipal significant science and technology achievement awards.
With the tenet “insisting in providing excellent service for scientific research and subject construction”, the lab gives full play to the modernization of the role of state-of-the-art instruments, plays an important role in cultivating the graduate student's hands-on abilities and improving the level of scientific research, becomes the important support of scientific research, an important platform of interdisciplinary and the important base of modern analysis in our school.
