Academic Environment

Taking the creation of academic environment as the priority, the college continues to offer the students a place to question. have an appetite for knowledge and apply critical thinking to the studies, allowing students to fulfil their potential and make the most of life’s opportunities. Being a link to improve academic environment, nine student associations of the college have initiated professional skill competitions that are Logistics Association, Yunfan Shipping Association, etc. Each year, over a thousand students take part in these competitions and hundreds of them get awarded, achieving the full coverage of all disciplines.

Being a leading figure in the shipping industry, the college has enhanced the cultivation of students’ innovation ability and has carried out summer internship activities at Yantian Port, which provides a broad platform for the young by enabling them to participate in enterprise projects. The project has been praised by the university as a model for school-enterprise cooperation, which is called “Yantian Model”.

Youth League

With the ideological guidance, the college has consolidated the consensus of the youth with red culture. establishing solid foundation for education.

Training activities of the Youth League School have been done three to five times, with a total of 80 credit hours each year. The college lays emphasis on setting inspiring examples for students and has hosted a variety of league activities with characteristics, such as a series of activities named “Remain True to Our Original Aspiration and Follow the Communist Party of China”, publicity and exhibitions called “A Profile of the Communist Party of China”, themed evening party named “Sail from Dalian Maritime University to Regulate family and rejuvenate China”, etc.

Putting theory into practice, the college has launched projects of league construction innovatively and guided members of the Communist Youth League to develop theoretical researches. Lecture series named “Voice of the World” was carried out, and distinguished alumni were invited to deliver speeches, which gives full play to the guidance and demonstration of the example.

Scientific and Technological Innovation

The college encourages scientific and technological innovation, building a development platform actively, helping students achieve their scientific research dreams. Specifically, the college supports and organizes students to take part in various kinds of innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, such as Challenge Cup, College Student Innovation Project and so on. A sound atmosphere for scientific research thus can be created by relevant activities like science and technology competitions.

With the joint efforts of all faculty and students of the college, many teams have won national, provincial and municipal awards in more than ten professional competitions, such as “National Transportation Technology Contest for College Students”, “Internet Plus Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”, “National Contest on Logistics Design by University Students (NCOLD)”, “National Design Competition” and “National College Student Metallurgy Skills Competition”. Furthermore, every year over a hundred students do well in China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, National English Competition for College Students and Challenge Cup and so on.

Extra-curricular Activities

There are amazing social activities and popular sports in the college to develop students’ interests. Various arts and cultural activities where students act as the main roles like welcoming party for the freshmen, graduation party, and student associations’ festival are actively done to foster artistic talents, celebrate diversity and promote change. A dancing program called Blue Sea’s Old Friend won the first prize in “Chasing the Dream Cup”, a dance competition of the college. It also participated in the variety performance of universities called “United Cup” in Liaoning province and stood our students in good stead for the rest of life and the goal of career at Dalian Maritime University.

The college stimulates a variety of sports activities such as “Three Walks”, Freshman Basketball Game, Class-based Relay Race, Fun Sports Games, Squadron Football Match and Shining Run to keep students fit and healthy. The relay race called “Running, Young Man” was specially reported by All-China Students’ Federation on its WeChat platform and positive comments were received from various fields.

Employment

Employment in the College of Transportation Engineering is implemented in compliance with the deployment and requirement of “13th Five-Year Plan” and “National Double First-rate” construction. Carrying out the “Top leadership” Project and “Four-level Linkage” mechanism, the college takes “satisfying students, the college and employers” as its goal and the leading role of alumni-based companies, strategic cooperative enterprises and educational bases of internship to provide lots of opportunities to build students’ employability skills, get work experience or develop entrepreneurial ideas.

The College Career service can help graduates in career guidance and provide follow-up services. By organizing and encouraging students to take part in competitions as National Transportation Technology Contest for College Students and National Contest on Logistics Design by University Students and so on, the college hopes the students’ skill-sets make them highly sought after by employers.

The College Careers Service can provide the students with expert and tailored support with their career goals. For different grades and different job-hunting students, it provides a comprehensive skill-building programme including classified vocational guidance through activities like “Experience exchanges among postgraduate entrance examination, overseas studying and civil service examination”, “Workshop of Career Guidance” and so on.

Currently, the college has formed a well-bedded and targeted “four-level method” educational system for the employment career of undergraduates which relies on the teaching contents of career planning, professional introduction, career guidance, etc. and takes regular employment activities as the basic framework and major competitions as the main support.

As a result, the rate of signing contracts of undergraduates and postgraduates basically reaches over 90% and the employment rate achieves over 95%.
